Dairy Free Diet

Why Dairy Free?

Am I lactose intolerance? No I am not. Why did I started off with dairy free overnight oats? I have always like fresh milk but being a mom, I can give up my favourite food/drink for my little one.

My baby is colicky and paediatrician advised me to give up dairy if I want to continue with breastfeeding. Obviously, my choice is to give up on dairy. Then, I started to make dairy free overnight oats and I like it so much ️ and I can see huge improvement with my baby, less cranky, sleeps better.

So why dairy free? Besides most dairy products contain pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, and the effects of homogenization and pasteurization — According to Dr Mark Hyman:-

  1. Not everyone can stomach dairy. About 75 percent of the world’s population is genetically unable to properly digest milk and other dairy products — a problem called lactose intolerance.

  2. Dairy causes digestive problems for the 75 percent of people with lactose intolerance.

  3. Dairy aggravates irritable bowel.

  4. Our bodies just weren’t made to digest milk on a regular basis. Instead, most scientists agree that it’s better for us to get calcium, potassium, protein, and fats from other food sources, like whole plant foods — vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and seaweed.

Then, Dr Mark Hyman suggested that we should try giving up all dairy. That means eliminate milk, cheese, yogurt, and ice cream for two weeks and see if you feel better. You should notice improvements with your sinuses, post-nasal drip, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, energy, and weight. Then start eating dairy again and see how you feel. If you feel worse, you should try to give it up for life.

Now that we know how dairy can affect our health, I guessed we know how to make a better choice; a jar of regular overnight oats or a jar of yummilicious dairy free overnight oats
